The Origins of Qigong
Ancient Wisdom for Modern Wellness
🌿 History of Qigong
Qigong, literally meaning “energy cultivation,” is a traditional Chinese practice with roots dating back over 4,000 years. It is deeply embedded in Daoist philosophy, which emphasizes harmony with nature, internal balance, and the cultivation of spiritual and physical vitality.
Early Daoist monks observed the natural world and developed movement, breathing, and meditation practices to align their internal energy (Qi) with the rhythms of nature. By the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE), Qigong was systematized into both martial and healing arts. Daoist hermits and scholars passed these teachings through generations, contributing to the foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine and martial arts like Tai Chi.
